CRAVE BY KFC
When KFC entered the world of beauty with the launch of Crave 💄
A lipstick with ‘wing proof’ technology that gave lips a zinger tingle.
The Background
I could try to say that KFC wanted to get more women into the brand (which is true) at the time, or that beauty influencers are some of the most followed, but the truth is, National Wing Day and National Lipstick Day happen to be on the same day…
We also knew KFC fans went crazy for the brand, we wanted to give them something to talk about.
The Idea
KFC’s first foray into the world of beauty, with a wing proof, ‘zinger tingle’ lipstick. I’m under no disillusions, when you work with a brand as loved as KFC, there is naturally more media appetite, but the key here was keeping things simple. No celebrity, no paid influencer, this one just naturally caught 11 herbs and spices worth of fire.
We kept it super limited to drive demand, and it got HEAPS of global broadcast, online and print coverage. We created the lot, the lipsticks, the content and the spoof beauty images, and all on a moderate budget.
Beauty ads, perfume ads,
they are all a bit batsh*t, right?
We decided to have some fun and parody some of the common tropes, creating our own cliched ad for the launch of KFC crave, which ended up being used across broadcast coverage, including The Morning Show.
It organically spread like wildfire in the beauty world
This one got KFC in front of a completely unique audience to previous activations 💄
